Christina Kafalas is a talented, spirited artist who is best known for her vibrant acrylic pours and eclectic collection of paintings. Christina has always been filled with creativity and imagination. As a child, she enjoyed dabbling in arts and crafts and creating hand-made board games. It wasn’t until the COVID pandemic in March 2020 that Christina really began to dedicate her time and resources to developing her creativity and artistic skills.
While the world was quarantined, Christina was determined to make the most of her extra free time by diving into her art. She quickly gravitated towards fluid art painting and fell in love with the vibrant colors and abstract expression of acrylic pours. As her skills developed, she found painting to be wonderfully uplifting during the stressful time of the pandemic. Painting helped her learn how to enjoy the process of things and be less focused on the end result. It gave her an outlet to express herself, challenge herself, and embrace imperfection.
As her passion grew, she decided to share her artwork on social media to help her stay motivated to produce more art. She was happily surprised when her friends and family members started requesting to purchase her artwork. This inspired her to start taking her art more seriously which led her to create a social media business page for her art called CKA Art Designs in July 2020.
CKA (originally pronounced “See-Kuh”) was created by combining the first letter of her first name and the first two letters of her last name. She originally spelled it with a dash (“C-Ka”) but changed it to an acronym (“CKA”) later for simplification and clarity. C-Ka was a nickname that she made for herself as a child based on the way the pop singer Jennifer Lopez went by the nickname “J-Lo”. Christina envisioned C-Ka as the best version of herself who was capable of doing anything she put her mind to. She hoped to tap into this part of herself through her artwork and share it with the world.
It didn’t take long for this self-taught artist to start selling her artwork to strangers and art admirers from all over the US! In September 2021, shortly after the world started opening up again, she had her first experience selling art in the community by presenting at First Friday at Alwun House in Phoenix. She has been a loyal vendor at First Fridays at Alwun House ever since. She went on to display her artwork at many other community events and even had her artwork displayed in a local virtual gallery in December 2021. In April 2022, she participated in her first art contest, the Phoenix Pride Artists Call, and won third place. This event led her to the opportunity to partner with Exposed Studio and Gallery for her first ever gallery show for the month of June 2022.
Christina’s hard work and courage has helped her to excel further than she ever imagined in the art world. She shared how she loves making abstract art because it brings out something different in each viewer based on their personal experiences. She loves being able to connect with others through her paintings by making them feel something when they look at her art. She stated,
“When someone buys a piece of my art, they’re actually accepting and embracing a piece of my heart and soul into their life. I’m grateful to have such a truly beautiful privilege.”
Get ready to immerse yourself in the beauty of abstract acrylic paintings, fluid art, pour creations, vivid portraits with solid color blocks, and enchanting splatter flower masterpieces. Let your imagination run wild!
